An ancient Chinese skin-care tool seems to have the millennial generation smitten. From Instagram moms to YouTube divas, one of the hottest trends at the intersection of beauty and wellness right now is the gemstone roller, a hip new East meets West gadget.

A mini paint roller–type tool that’s made from jade or other gemstones like quartz, these trendy rollers are said to decrease puffiness and under eye circles and even minimize fine lines. Famed for their use in 17th century imperial China, these sparkly crystal babies are hot once more.

If you sometimes wake up looking like a marshmallow, because you partied too hard or have bad allergies, this might be cause for celebration.

“Puffiness in your face when you wake up from sleeping, for example, is from pooled lymphatic fluid,” Purvisha Patel, M.D., founder of Visha Skincare, who practices dermatology in Tennessee and Mississippi told Women’s Health.
