Dermatologist explains the difference between a toner and an essence

What is an essence? An essence is a lightweight hydrating liquid formulated to deliver active ingredients deep. it has a higher concentration of actives such as antioxidants and vitamins. They are designed to enhance skin texture and hydration. Visha Correcting Serums are like essences, but thicker.

What is a toner? a toner is a liquid skin care product used after cleansing to help removed remaining impurities on the skin and balance the pH- you see it used to be that we used soap to wash our faces and it was too basic (as in pH not boring) They are used to prepare the skin for other products and can be hydrating, or astringent (if you have oily skin)

Texture is different toners are more watery then essence/serums/. Ingredients may also be different, as toners may have more astringents and essences more hydrators

Essences and toners may have different ingredients depending on what you are trying to achieve with your skin. Toner is used after cleansing. An essence or serum is to be used after the toner. A moisturizer is to be used after the essence.

The benefit of a toner, is that it removes residual dirt/makeup, balances skin pH and reduces appearance of pores/oil control. The benefit of a toner is that it hydrates and improves texture, enhances absorption of other skin care. Both types of products address specific skin concerns.  You can use an essence and a toner after one another as described above.

Visha Skincare Cheek2Feet spray is an excellent toner for acne prone skin, as it has witch hazel and tea tree oil. Visha Advanced Correcting Serum is a thicker form of essence with retinol, vitamin C, vitamin E , ferrulic acid, hyaluronic acid, nicacinamide and illuminotex- a patented skin lightener.
