How to Prevent Dry Skin and Cracked Lips

The skin and lips are the worst enemies of winter. As the temperatures drop, the lack of moisture in the surrounding makes us to develop chapped lips, dry skin and scaly legs. Luckily, there are several ways you can keep your skin and lips moist and glowing during winter!

Use a Good Moisturizer

Moisturizing is an important component of the skin regiment, especially during winter. Make sure you choose a product that is friendly to your skin type to avoid problems. Visha Skincare makes one of the best moisturizers on the market! Apply the moisturizer immediately after you take a bath to trap as much water as possible.

Use a Humidifier

Our lips and skin become dry and cracked because of lack of enough moisture in the surrounding. A humidifier ensures there is enough moisture circulating around the house. This provides the skin and lips with adequate moisture to remain soft and glowing. If you don’t have a humidifier yet, then consider getting one.

Scrub Your Lips

This might seem strange, given the fact that the lips are very soft and sensitive. However, it is a good idea, especially if your lips are already dry, to scrub and remove the dry and chapped skin cells. This is commonly referred to as exfoliation. Your lips will look more nourished and fresh every time you exfoliate. And remember to apply a moisturizer after you exfoliate to prevent further chapping.

Stay Hydrated

Water forms pretty much every component of our skin. If the skin lacks enough water, it will appear pale and dry. Make sure you drink enough water to moisturize the skin and prevent it from drying. Drink at least eight glasses at regular intervals throughout the day. If you don’t like the taste of water, then try a fluid rich diet.

Take Vitamin Supplements

Vitamin B and A are essential for skin. Vitamin B, for instance, helps retain a lot of moisture in the skin. Vitamin A helps repair and replace damaged skin tissues and cells. These vitamins are available in foods such as skimmed milk, read meat, eggs, fortified cereals and fruits. You can also take them as supplements. In addition to vitamin A and B, you need to take diets full of vitamin C and E to increase collagen production in the lips and prevent the skin from aging faster.

Don’t Shower in a Very Hot Water

Avoid showering in super-hot water if you want your skin and lips to remain smooth and attractive. Hot water tends to draw a lot of moisture from the skin. It also removes natural oils. The more your skin loses natural oils, the drier it becomes.

Avoid Certain Foods

Not all foods are friendly to your skin. Foods that contain a lot of spices and salt make the tongue to touch the lips frequently than necessary. This frequent touching can dry and irritate the lips. Avoid these foods in cold days as much as possible.

Do Not Smoke

Smoking causes dry skin and lips. The tar found in cigarette contains chemicals that interact with the body cells and make them to become flaccid and rigid. These chemicals mainly attack the skin cells. So avoid smoking if you want to have moisturized and beautiful skin.
