The article includes Dr. Patel's expert commentary on skin hydration.

Let’s be honest, nobody likes having dry flakey skin, but unfortunately for us, the sun’s UV rays, along with seasonal changes in weather can cause damage to the skin, causing it to become dry and itchy. But it’s not just those who suffer from “dry skin” who should be worried. According to Dr. Purvisha Patel, board-certified dermatologist and creator of Visha Skincare, without proper hydration, your skin can look dull and old regardless of whether you have normal, dry, combination, or oily skin. With that in mind, here are Dr. Patel’s top tips on how to keep your skin looking and feeling its best during this seasonal transition.

Switch to a thick moisturiser

“During summer, our skin is naturally more moist and sweaty, which is why we tend to use lighter products such as oils to ensure we don’t clog our pores. However, in autumn, it is recommended you switch to a heavier moisturiser to help cushion skin and lock in moisture. Products that contain Shea butter are always a good option.”

SPF is important year-round

“Sunscreen isn’t mutually exclusive with the summer. Make sure you’re using a SPF 30 or higher every day to ensure the sun isn’t drying up your skin. With our face and body being exposed to so many harsh elements, forgetting this important skincare step can lead to more pronounced fine lines, wrinkles and dryness.”
